What the Mountain Taught Me About Mental Health

In a world that rewards hustle, noise, and movement - I’m trying to learn stillness.

Not the stillness of giving up.

Not the hollow kind that echoes like silence after a slammed door.

But the stillness of the mountain -

Powerful. Rooted. Sure.

Sure of its place in the world, especially in the moments when my depression tries to tell me there isn’t one.

Sure of its purpose, even when the weather changes - especially when my ADHD has my mind racing so fast I forget what that purpose is.

Even when the world spins too fast from my anxiety.

Even when everything around it shifts.

I used to think strength looked like motion -

Doing. Chasing. Checking off boxes.

But I’ve come to learn that sometimes, strength is just… staying put.

Refusing to be moved by every opinion, every fear, every demand to do more, be more, move faster.

To breathe - and just keep going.

The mountain doesn’t flinch when the wind howls.

It doesn’t apologize for taking up space.

It just stands.

Quiet. Unbothered. Ancient in its knowing.

And maybe that’s the kind of strength I want now.

Not loud. Not rushed. Not polished or shiny.

But deep. Steady. Unmoved.

Because I don’t need to be everywhere.

I don’t need to prove everything.

I don’t need to say yes to it all.

I just need to be where I’m meant to be -

and let that be enough.
