The Year That Asked Everything of Me

As this year comes to a close - as it always does - I find myself reflecting on 2025 and all the trials, lessons, growth, and quiet resilience it required of me.

The year began on a downswing with the loss of my job. It was jarring, unsettling, and deeply humbling. I moved through uncertainty, questioned my next turn, found a beautiful work family, and then wrestled again with deciding where my career might lead me next. It was a year of recalibration - sometimes gentle, sometimes painfully abrupt.

Financially, the impact was real. A job loss, followed by a significantly smaller income, layered with inflation that touched every corner of life - it challenged my wallet and my peace of mind. There were moments when stability felt just out of reach, and I had to learn how to stretch grace as carefully as dollars.

Somewhere in the middle of all that, I found new hobbies. One of them was this blog. Writing became a quiet refuge - a place to land when everything else felt unsteady. Those late nights (or early mornings, depending on how you define 3 a.m.) weighed heavily on my mental health, especially alongside everything else I was carrying. But writing offered peace. It grounded me. It held me steady through some of my darkest nights.

Perfume and TikTok unexpectedly sparked a new passion. Sharing my love of fragrance with the world has been joyful, creative, and - surprisingly - well received. My channel is growing, and faster than I ever anticipated. Now I find myself wondering if I can stay focused, stay engaged, and see just how far this new passion might take me. For the first time in a long while, curiosity outweighs fear.

Physically, I lost nearly an entire person - 60 pounds, to be exact. I started the year with one simple goal: regain control of my body and my health at a time when my mind felt completely out of control. I lost the first 40 pounds through sheer determination, discipline, and movement. Then I began my Tirzepatide journey to shed the final 20. Today, I am comfortable in my own skin. I move easier. I feel better. I smile at my reflection instead of avoiding it. Maintaining has been the hardest part so far, but the same fight that brought me here will be the fight that keeps me here.

Above all else, this year taught me a vital truth: I am not always in control of my life. Outside forces can and do shape our paths. But I am capable of controlling what I can - of channeling mental illness, hardship, and uncertainty into something productive, meaningful, and even beautiful.

I may not always win the fight with my mental health. But I have learned that even on the hardest days, it will still be okay. Life is a journey always worth taking. Always worth looking forward to the next experience. Always worth another day.

And that lesson alone makes this year worth remembering.
