The Purpose in the Pause

Well - this is it. No saved drafts. No scribbled thoughts in the margins. No half-formed paragraphs waiting for polish. It’s just me, my coffee, and an empty notepad.
When I first started writing, it was a lifeline. A way to soothe my anxious mind. Something to do during those long, restless nights when sleep wouldn’t come. And somewhere along the way, I realized… I loved it. I didn’t just need the outlet - I craved it. I challenged myself to post at least one blog a night. In truth, I was churning out two or three. The words came easily, the ideas flowed like a river, and people seemed to enjoy reading them.
For a moment, I let myself wonder: Am I actually becoming a writer worth reading?
Then came the expectation. Not from others, but from within. I have to write something tonight. What will I write about? What does my audience want to hear? It stopped being just a creative release and started to feel like a quiet obligation. But to be clear - it didn’t steal the joy. If anything, it gave me structure. A goal. A rhythm.
But tonight? Tonight, I expected inspiration to tap me on the shoulder. To hand me a story, a memory, something. I waited. I drank my coffee. I stared at the blank page like it held secrets. And nothing came.

So I did the only thing I could do - I wrote about having nothing to write about.
Is this the end of my blogging? No. I don’t think so. I think it’s just a pause. Maybe even my mind’s way of saying: Writing has served its purpose for now. Rest.
And you know what? As I typed those last few lines, two new blog ideas slipped into my brain - quiet and unexpected
.
Maybe the words return when we stop chasing them. Maybe there is purpose in the pause.
