Some Days Are Just Meant to Be Survived

Today wasn’t a good day.

I got some news I wasn’t expecting - the kind that slips in uninvited and unsettles everything. It derailed me. Not dramatically, not outwardly. But it weighed heavy. It settled somewhere between my shoulders and my stomach and sat there through lunch, through work, through small talk.

I was shocked. Angry, even. Though I couldn’t quite name the target. My frustration didn't have a neat, single source. It pointed in several directions at once, so instead of letting it out, I did what I’ve learned to do - I trapped it. I folded it inward like a note I couldn’t bring myself to read aloud.

Then Facebook did what Facebook does best: delivered a perfectly timed punch to the gut.

It was a post about something I rarely talk about, something that lives deep in the background of my life. To the outside world, it looks like I handle it with grace. They might even say I handle it brilliantly. But the truth?

I don’t handle it at all. I just hide it really well.

It’s become this quiet, constant source of pain. A thread I try not to tug too hard. I don’t know the right way to deal with it - and I’m exhausted from trying to figure it out. So I do what I’ve always done: I bury it. Deep. Tuck it into the corners of me where the light doesn’t quite reach.

So today gave me two gifts I didn’t ask for. Two reminders that my emotions don’t always have a home. Two reasons to dive down to the deepest, darkest parts of myself - the places I only visit when I have no other choice.

And that’s where I am tonight.

Not broken, not lost… just submerged for a bit. Letting the silence speak, letting the ache stretch its legs, letting myself feel it - really feel it - without trying to polish it up or make it sound poetic.

Some days are just meant to be survived. And that’s enough.

Still, sometimes I wish someone could see the pain I carry - and try, just once, to make it right.
