Dear Scale, We Need to Talk

It’s not me.
It’s you.
I know, I know - we’ve been through a lot together. Mornings. Evenings. Post-workouts. Post-Cocoa Pebbles-regrets. I’ve stepped onto you with hope in my heart and dreams in my eyes. And you? You’ve responded with a cold, unblinking number and an attitude.
We’ve had good days, sure. Days where the number dropped and I swore I’d never curse your name again. But lately? You’ve become… toxic. Honestly, I’m not even sure why I keep coming back. You're not reflecting the relationship I thought we had.
Because here’s the thing, Scale:
I’ve changed.
I’ve sweated through walks and the booty challenge. Said no to late-night snacks. Said yes to early-morning walks when my bed begged me to stay. I’ve passed up cake (actual cake!) and pushed past limits I thought I had. My body is getting stronger. My clothes are fitting better. My reflection is starting to match how I feel inside - confident, determined, even kinda hot on a good hair day.
And what do you have to say about that?
“Same number as last week.”
Really? That’s it? Not even a “congrats on those looser jeans”? Not a “hey, your arms are looking kinda sculpted today”? Rude.
You don’t see the non-scale victories. You don’t count the inches lost, or the strength gained. You just sit there… silently judging… from the corner of my bathroom like the passive-aggressive rectangle you are.
So here’s where I stand.
(And no, not on you.)
This journey isn’t about chasing a number anymore. It’s about chasing freedom. Strength. Peace. Joy in my own skin. And you, dear Scale, are no longer the boss of that.
This isn't a forever goodbye - I may visit when I feel like it. But from now on, your voice is just one in a much louder, more supportive crowd that includes my heart, my mindset, my muscles, and my jeans that finally zip without a prayer.
So thank you… for what you’ve taught me.
But also… seriously?
We’re on a break.
Sincerely,
Someone Who’s Done Letting You Define Her Worth
