When you were little, I imagined this day -

your name echoing through a graduation hall, your shoulders square with purpose, your future wide open.

But I never quite imagined how proud I would feel.

Or how much it would tug at my heart.

You’re graduating from Virginia Tech with your master’s degree in political science.

That’s no small thing. That’s grit. That’s tenacity. That’s showing up again and again, even when you were tired, unsure, overwhelmed.

But you?

You did it with grace.

With passion.

With the kind of quiet strength that’s always lived in you.

I remember when you first went away to school.

You FaceTimed me constantly - every little thing, every class update, every food dilemma, every moment of homesickness.

Then it was once a day.

Then every other day.

And slowly… the calls got fewer.

At first, I worried.

But I realized - it wasn’t distance growing between us.

It was wings.

You were learning to be on your own. Not just independent the way you’ve always been - but independent in the world.

And I couldn’t be prouder.

Because I’ve watched you chase hard things.

I’ve watched you hold your ground in conversations that matter.

I’ve watched you carry the weight of expectations and still walk with your head held high.

You’ve grown into someone this world deeply needs -

a woman who knows her worth, speaks with clarity, leads with purpose.

And while this chapter closes, I know you’re just getting started.

The world better make room.

I love you more than words can say,

and I’ll always be one FaceTime away.

Love,

Mom
