Brisk Walking My Way Through Couch to 5K - and Life

Technically, it’s called Couch to 5K, but if we're being honest, it’s mostly been Couch to Crawl to Brisk Walk to ‘Dear Lord, Save Me.’ But I guess progress is progress - and every awkward, panting, sweaty step is a step closer to the version of me I’m trying to become.
I’ve officially entered my periodic jog era - where my pace says “motivated” but my face says, “this might be what takes me out.” My playlist is doing its best to hype me up, but there’s only so much TLC can do when your legs feel like spaghetti and your lungs are writing their will.
Still, I push on past judgmental squirrels and silently thank every breeze that hits me like a pat on the back. At this point, I’m basically one jogging interval away from starring in my own underdog sports movie. Probably titled "She Walked…But With Purpose."
I may not be sprinting into the sunset like a gazelle on a sneaker commercial, but I am moving forward - and that counts for something. The truth is, I’m learning that life itself is a lot less about sprinting and a lot more about showing up, gasping for breath, and stubbornly putting one foot in front of the other even when the couch calls your name and so sweetly whispers, "Hey, girl, just five more minutes..."
Some days I feel strong, like maybe - just maybe - my lungs and my legs had a top-secret meeting and finally decided to work together for my brain's sake. Other days? It’s a miracle I don’t text Jelane to pick me up halfway through and claim I was "being chased by a very aggressive bear and barely made it out alive."
But here's the truth that’s slowly and quite stubbornly settling in: Movement, even imperfect, awkward, snail-paced movement, still builds strength. And that, my friends, is magic.
So, I’m out here brisk walking with a sprinkle of a jog here and there, not just toward a 5K finish line, but toward a life where progress matters more than perfection. Where showing up beats showing off. Where even if my "jog" looks suspiciously like a determined, awkward walk, my heart knows this is still victory.

What I’m learning is that growth doesn’t always show up loud and victorious. Sometimes, it’s the quiet decision to just keep pushing, to lace up the shoes - especially on the days you really don't want to - to try again when no one’s watching, to believe that small victories still lead to big change.
I’m not chasing a finish line anymore; I’m chasing a version of myself that believes I’m worth the effort. Because I am. And so are you.
So here I am - crawling, walking, jogging my way through Couch to 5K... much like I’m stumbling through this thing called life.
Not gracefully. Not without doubt. But forward - one day at a time, always forward.
Every breathless mile, every shaky step, every tiny victory reminds me: it’s not about how fast I get there. It’s about honoring the promise I made to myself to simply keep going. Not just on the track, but through every depressed, anxiety-filled, ADHD-fueled day. Through every drowning moment. Through every whispered voice that tries to say, “You can’t do this anymore.”
I can.
You can.
And if we have to crawl... or brisk walk... or throw on a '90s R&B playlist and march like we’re storming the castle - so be it.
Progress is progress.
And we’re not just surviving anymore.
We’re showing up. We’re choosing better. We're warriors.
