Back to Blogging at 3AM: When Anxiety Comes Knocking

It’s 3AM again. The hour when the world finally hushes… and my mind decides to do the opposite.
I wish I could say I stumbled back into the 3AM Café because inspiration struck, or because I missed the quiet magic of these hours. But the truth is softer, messier, and a little embarrassing: I let life get too loud, forgot to refill my meds, and went a week or more without them. And my anxiety - never one to miss an open invitation - waltzed back in like it paid the rent.
This week? It’s been rough. Not the dramatic, falling-apart kind of rough. More like the steady hum of unease that follows you from room to room. The kind that crawls under your skin and fills your chest with a steady tightness you can’t quite name. It’s the overthinking, the heart flutters, the oh-so-familiar insomnia tapping me on the shoulder like, “Hey stranger… miss me?”
I guess I did. In a strange way, these nights feel like home. A haunted kind of home, maybe - but still mine.
But here’s the thing: I’m learning not to beat myself up. Anxiety isn’t a personal failure. Forgetting my meds doesn’t make me irresponsible - it makes me human. A tired, overwhelmed, trying-her-best human who’s juggling a lot and sometimes drops the ball. And honestly? Picking it back up is still progress.
Tonight, as I sit here with the glow of the screen and the weight of this past week settling around me, I’m reminded of something important:
Anxiety doesn’t make me weak. Sleepless nights don’t make me broken. They make me honest.
They pull me back into myself. They remind me to slow down, to breathe, to listen to what I’ve been avoiding - my own needs, my own rest, my own care.
And maybe that’s the quiet lesson hidden inside these 3AM hours: I don’t have to pretend I’m okay to be strong. I don’t have to sleep perfectly, function flawlessly, or glide through the week like a polished professional for my life to still hold meaning and direction.
Sometimes strength looks like taking your meds on time. Sometimes it looks like asking for help. And sometimes, it just looks like telling the truth… even when it’s 3AM and you feel a little frayed at the edges.
So yeah… I’m back to blogging at 3AM. Not because everything is beautiful, but because it’s real. Because the quiet hours still hold space for me. Because writing is how I turn the chaos down long enough to hear myself think.
And because even on weeks like this - especially on weeks like this - I’m still here. Still trying. Still choosing to show up for my own story.
Even if I’m writing it with shaky hands and sleepless eyes.
